“You cannot touch the sky from inside yourself.” - India.Arie We really do live our best lives when we live given. When we freely give of our time and talents— and let’s face it, these things are not really “ours”; we are in God’s debt for all, who freely gave all to us. I have learned this lesson the hard way. I’m introverted, disciplined, and love time and space to think and create— my tendency is to protect my time. But I live life one hundred fold when I live given; when I go ahead and let others in. It honestly takes so much of the pressure off when I am able to recognize that my life and abilities were not given to me for my benefit; they were given to me to in order that they might be given back, might become sacrament. This is where I reach my fullest potential— not in becoming great, but in yielding all that I have.
We really become, we start to emerge, when we live more than inside ourselves. Something inside of you & me is exactly what someone else needs— and that’s what it means to harbor and have gifts. All that we have here, and now, was meant to be broken, blessed, and distributed, in love and gratitude and God’s name.
