Just here to drop some quick Thanksgiving knowledge 🦃 Turkeys have become absurdly large, because they’re bred to have big breasts. Try saying that three times fast These animals can barely move without pain. Turkeys grow very large and to these disproportionate, crippling weights. In the 1930s the average turkey weighed 13 lbs. Today the average is 31 lbs.!!
They are so oversized they can’t mate naturally, so they are artificially inseminated to reproduce, a process developed by the government. They’re also crammed into tiny spaces: about two square feet for every 30 pound bird.
Because of this, we see the spread of disease really accelerating. They live in their own feces so they get sick. It’s just like having a bunch of really sick kids locked in a room. And turkeys are often pumped with antibiotics to combat the sickness, but now we’re seeing an overuse of antibiotics and that’s really bad for humans. It can result in superbugs within our food supply. That’s gross!
Luckily, and thanks to Mother Earth, there are THOUSANDS of vegetarian/vegan options to fill your table with this Thanksgiving
